An unexpected turn of events saw Arsenal suffer from a defeat due to a brace by Darrent Bent in the first half.
Arsenal was hosting Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium with hopes of of edging into the higher spots of the Premier League but things did not go as they had planned and they suffered a surprising lose with the scoreboard displaying 2-1 at the end of it all.
‘The Gunners’ were far from experiencing the best match of their lives as they failed in a number of times to score which could have changed the final outcome of the meeting.
First goal arrived when Arsenal was having trouble trying to clear the ball in their own half after a corner was launched by Squillaci and Darren Bent got the ball down with his chest and placed the ball into the top post of Szczesny.
This goal gave Aston Villa the edge they needed and now they started playing much better than before which gave them the 2nd goal only 4 minutes later.
A clinical pass from Ashley Young over to the ongoing Bent which somehow managed to beat the offside trap and doubled his team’s lead.
Arsene Wenger’s men took some time to recover from the rapid goals of Brace but they got back on they’re feet and started playing how they always do.
Moments later the host team was denied from a clear penalty after Aaron Ramsay picked up the ball from a pass by his teammate Wilshere and later was tackled down by Richard Dunne in the penalty area of Aston Villa but no penalty was allowed.
Just before the first period coming to a end, it was noticeable the frustration of Arsenal and even their fans after being denied from the clear penalty.
Second half started off with Arsenal going all out on the attack in search of the equalizer. Van Persie and Arshavin were the danger men for Wenger’s side unable to put it into the net.
Despite countless numbers of runs and shots from the host team they were having trouble going against Richard Dunne and James Collins at the back line of Villa.
Finally the deserved equalizer arrived for Arsenal in the 90th minute when Bendtner went into the opposition’s defense and managing to put the ball to Van Persie who only had to tap it into the net.
The meeting ended 2-1 with Arsenal falling behind and not being able to keep up with United and Chelsea in the top spots.
Man Of The Match: Darren Bent scored both goals for his side which gave them the victory. Although other than that, the English striker was absent for the remaining minutes of the match.
